Java Portlets 101 is designed for users who have not deployed portlet technology before. Throughout the book, you will develop a real-world JSR 168-compliant portlet application and deploy it using Apache Pluto.

Developing portlets can be easy. For people new to portlets, think of them as servlets. Lifecycles of both portlets and servlets are managed by the container and they accept requests from users and generate dynamic response. Portlets provide advanced features, which sets them apart from servlets however.
